Lyrics Born: Everywhere at Once

Asian-American hip-hop dynamo Lyrics Born is dropping a new full length this week, and if you need something to shake your rump to you could do a whole lot worse.
For one thing, LB has some wicked laid-back flow, even when his subject matter could leave a little to be desired (case in point: “dude”-anthem “Differences”). For another, LB’s decided to stop sampling outright, choosing instead to work with live musicians when and where possible. The result is a lot of funky grooves with pristine production values. Fans of old school bit-crunching samplers (self included) may wish for a bit more dirt in the production though.
Sometimes the modern production values (divas, etc.) will turn me off, but LB’s rhyme skills keep the record moving and help me make my peace with the aspects of the record that I’d change if I had my druthers. Of course, if I had my druthers this record would also be free of skits like “Shoe Hoes Anonymous.”
