Y-Love: This is Babylon
May 30th, 2008 by stv

Brooklyn’s Y-Love is a bit of an anomaly in contemporary hip-hop circles; a devout and studious Hassidic Jew, he mixes his gritty socio-political commentary with scripture and prophecy, which he delivers in Arabic, Hebrew, Aramaic and Latin as well as English.
Y-Love (AKA Yitz Jordan) generally drops his rhymes with a relaxed flow, but he’s not afraid to get visceral when the situation warrants. The track “6000″ finds Jordan particularly focussed in an anti-Bush tirade that takes no prisoners.
The big drawback for me is the overall production of the backing tracks. Heavily synth-driven and rather cold sounding, Jordan’s rapping could benefit from something more organic being thrown into the mix.
