Featuring Richard Underhill, lo-bat et al vs. Crystal Castles, Santo Gold vs. Santogold, Sigor Rós, Weezer and Biz Markie

I was reading the National Post today (they gave me one when I went for an oil change), and was pleasantly surprised to see friend of gitpop Richard Underhill talking about the etiquette of after hours jazz jams: “If someone requests ‘Summertime,’ of course, that’s a $50 surcharge for everybody in the band.”

Crystal Castles have finally responded to allegations of sample theft (some of which were made by me). Apparently they’ve made peace with all artists involved and are organizing a compilation of their fave 8-bit tunes to be released on their label. Still no official word from lo-bat (all attempts to email him for comment resulted in bounced messages).

Stereogum has a bizarre litigation story today about Santogold being sued by Santo Gold, who is uniquely unaware that it’s not the confusion in names holding him back from fame and fortune.

Attention Canadian Sports Fans: Now that the CBC has lost the rights to use the Hockey Night in Canada theme music (snatched up by competitor network CTV), they’ve started a contest to find the next one.

Hot off a successful night at NYC’s Museum of Modern Art, Iceland’s Sigor Rós have announced a North American tour this fall. Get you tickets here.

Weezer fans in the UK have the chance to snap up 3 different versions of the “Pork and Beans” single. Cuomo and Co. will be covering Psychedelic Furs, Gary Numan’s Tubeway Army and R.E.M. for the B-sides.

Last but not least, I just saw the most surreal thing ever. My three-year-old son wanted to watch a kid’s show called Yo Gabba Gabba and I’ll be damned if they didn’t have a segment with Biz Markie beatboxing. It looks like a regular feature, too. Too much!
