Featuring Devo vs. McDonald’s, Nine Ince Nails gets physical and your chance to play with Coldplay
Devo are furious over New Wave Nigel, an American Idol-themed McDonald’s Happy Meal toy. Devo bassist Gerald Casale, who designed the famous Devo energy dome chapeau, says the design is trademarked and patented, and no one approached the band for consent. “Plus, we don’t like McDonald’s,” says Casale, “and we don’t like ‘American Idol,’ so we’re doubly offended.”
If your not happy with free high quality MP3s, Nine Inch Nails have an offer for you. On July 25th they’re releasing a CD of their free download LP, The Slip. There will only be 250,000 made worldwide, and the package will be a six-panel individually numbered digipak that also comes with a bonus DVD (NIN rehearsing for their upcoming Lights In The Sky tour), a 24-page booklet and some stickers for the kiddies. Vinyl snobs will have to hold out until August 5th for the gatefold 180-gram vinyl LP with a 24-page booklet. This package will not be numbered.
Finally, if you’re in a band that has a video on YouTube and you want to open for Coldplay, head on over to this website and click on the radio station near you. It looks like up to six bands will get the opportunity to warm up the crowd for the Brit quartet somewhere on their American tour.
