Featuring Bowie on Bowie, The New Pornographers are raising money for good causes and Crtstal Castles get a slap on the wrist at Glastonbury
Subscribers to the Daily Mail, like my little sister, got one hell of a treat in the Sunday edition - a CD of David Bowie’s all-time career best tunes as chosen by the man himself. Big surprise; some of them are pretty obscure tracks you can’t get through the standard greatest hits collections. Big bonus, extensive liner notes written by Bowie as well.
The New Pornographers are using their performance at the Stanley Park Singing Exhibition (September 1 in Vancouver, B.C.) to raise copious amounts of money for The ALS Society of Canada and The Urban Native Youth Association. The band will also be making unique mechandising for this event with 100% of all proceeds going to the charities as well. Spoiler alert: former NP-collaborator Neko Case is also performing that weekend and appears to be scheduled to play with the band that night in addition to her own set the night before.
TO blipsters Crystal Castles almost got pulled offstage at Glastonbury. Apparently it was too much for festival overloads when singer Alice Glass climbed up on a stack of speakers. Apparently, they spray paint “NO STEP” on those things for a reason. After a brief discussion about the proper ettiquette of British rock and roll, Glass promised to restrain herself (crossed her heart, hoped to die, etc.), so they turned the power back on and the show resumed.
