About gitpop [dot] com

gitpop [dot] com is a site where I write about the current state of music. It includes direct links to articles I’ve had published elsewhere, bonus material not included anywhere else, and I few articles I’ve written just for the hell of it.

“git” is short for guitar, although you don’t have to play guitar to have your music included in this site. It’s also British slang for “idiot,” so feel free to interpret it how best you see fit.

“pop” refers to pop music, but not the new crap that’s all over the airwaves nowadays. I fell in love with pop music back in the seventies, in the wake of the Beatles, and as the world evolved after their break-up, so did my concept of pop music. I happen to think bands as seemingly disparate as Public Enemy and Autechre write very cool pop songs, and I hope you do too.

“pop” can also be used as a term of endearment for an older man, although it could easily be used condescendingly at the same time. Again, I’ll leave the interpretation up to you.

gitpop [dot] com’s raison d’être

I just like music. A lot. I’ve been listening, loving and critiquing it all my life. I started putting all my thoughts down on paper in December 2007, quickly realized that no one read things on paper anymore, and started publishing my thoughts to the web instead.

Well, it turns out it’s a perfect fit for me. I love talking to musicians, trying to figure out what makes them tick, I love getting a chance to dissect a record weeks before the general public gets to hear it, and I love sharing my thoughts with anyone who’ll read them.
