10 things you ought to know about working
at gitpop [dot] com
So, you want the swanky, glamourous lifestyle of a music writer, eh? Well, I can help you out in that regard to some degree, because gitpop is now expanding, and you have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor. Thrilling, no? Read on if you’re interested.
- All I have to offer at the moment are unpaid internships for music writers. The site is just getting started and the revenue stream is negligible at the moment.
- As the funds become available, unpaid internships will turn into modestly compensated positions.
- I’m looking to build a site where the writers dictate the content, independent of whatever influence bands, labels, managers and promoters might try to finagle. Ideal candidates have strong personal opinions about music and are not easily swayed by others. The ability to recognize a good song on its own merits, regardless of who wrote/recorded/produced it, what album it’s from, what genre it gets lumped into, where it comes from geographically or what other people are saying about it is a definite asset.
- Ideal candidates can write well-organized and -articulated original thoughts, comments and criticisms in concise English and know how to spellcheck and all that jazz.
- To be considered, you’ve got to be very passionate about music, and that music has to be somewhat modern and of interest to the relatively young-at-heart English-reading world (this site’s target audience).
- The job is strictly for motivated, self-starting telecommuters (we may never meet) who can manage deadlines, self-edit and do thorough research and fact checking.
- A certain level of net savviness, including basic HTML coding skills, is a must.
- While a certain bit of your personality leaking through into your writing is inevitable and even encouraged in the blogosphere, people come here to read about musicians and their music. Keeping that in mind, I’m looking for writers who know when to take themselves out of the story.
- You should know up front that interviews conducted via email are unacceptable at gitpop. How can you get gut reactions if your subjects can take their time to write out their responses? It gets in the way of the truth. If that’s how you roll, perhaps you should roll along elsewhere.
- If you’d like to be considered for a writing position, please fill out the form below. Thanks.
